Conningarth Student Training and Development Scheme
The multi-faceted Conningarth Student Training and Development program provides in-house training for its own staff, as well as enabling Conningarth to act as an external training service provider to various institutions such as the Development Bank of Southern Africa, the Department of Agriculture, the University of Pretoria, Lesotho Government Officials, etc.
Since Conningarth specialises in the application of complex economic and econometric tools such as the Social Accounting Matrix (SAM), Input-Output Analysis, Cost-Benefit Analysis, etc, it is in an ideal position to assist aspiring economists and clients in building capacity in the field of economic analysis. In all instances, students work under the supervision of qualified, experienced economists and econometricians, all of whom have either masters or doctorate level degrees, and are current or past lecturers at various academic institutions and have refereed various masters and doctoral theses.
The Conningarth Student Training and Development scheme provides opportunities for aspiring economists to advance their academic studies whilst obtaining practical experience. In addition to being enrolled for postgraduate masters or doctoral studies at academic institutions such as UNISA, RAU, University of Pretoria, etc., students are also members of multi-disciplinary teams, working on research projects that enable them to develop their skills in various disciplines such as economic policy formulation and analysis, research methodology, economic modelling, computer programming, statistical analysis, etc. Students acquire as much as 80% of their overall skills from this hands-on training whilst working on projects at Conningarth. During an average working day, students work for four hours on a particular project, with the remaining four hours being devoted to academic studies.
